MSP WELCOMES FUNDING FOR AYRSHIRE ROADS ALLIANCE

Jeane Freeman, MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley has welcomed the news that Ayrshire Roads Alliance are to receive £770k for four public roads projects. Fergus Ewing, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity, announced that communities across Scotland are to share in £7.05 million of funding from the Strategic Timber Transport Fund which has this year benefited from Scottish Government investment of £5 million.

In East Ayrshire the B741 Dalmellington to New Cumnock road will see improvements worth £388,000. The B7036 Barony Road will be resurfaced, along with the replacement of deck slab and restoration of parapets at Burnton Bridge on the B7046 Skares road at a cost of £100,000.

In South Ayrshire 1km of the C1 is to be resurfaced at a cost of £27,720 from the Dumfries and Galloway boundary north. The A714 is to be resurfaced in two locations at a cost of £253,750 – Girvan to Glendrissaig and Pinwherry Bents to Sixpence.

Jeane Freeman said:

“I welcome this news from the Scottish Government.

“This funding will allow the Ayrshire Roads Alliance to make big improvements to roads in East and South Ayrshire which will benefit local communities, businesses and of course the timber trade. On top of the news that work on the Maybole bypass will commence soon, the Scottish Government is working hard to improve the road infrastructure in Ayrshire.

“However, there is still more to be done, including reducing speed limits in some places. I will continue to work with national agencies and local activists on road issues, particularly the problems with the A77.”
