MSP and MP Welcome Government Investment Across Ayrshire

Published date : 27 Apr 2017

Jeane Freeman MSP and Corri Wilson MP have welcomed the Scottish Government’s publication of the update to its investment plans. The SNP Government plans to continue to invest in vital infrastructure across Ayrshire – helping to boost the local economy and protect the area from the cuts being imposed by the UK Government.

Commenting on the update, Jeane Freeman, MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, said:

“The Scottish Government has a strong record of investing in Ayrshire, opening the new £53 million Ayrshire College campus in Kilmarnock, investment in new affordable housing and regeneration schemes, the continued roll out of superfast broadband, continued work on the Dalry bypass, improvements to drinking water quality across Ayrshire and sustained investment in the rural economy.

“I am particularly pleased that procurement of the main works contract for the Maybole by-pass will commence this year, with construction expected to begin in 2018-19. This will make a real difference to the quality of life for the people of Maybole, as well as providing a faster transport route for local businesses.

“The SNP has always been committed to investing in the local economies of Ayrshire, and this commitment will continue in the years to come in the face of crippling Tory austerity and public service cuts.”

Corri Wilson, MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock said:

“This continued commitment from the Scottish Government to invest in vital infrastructure across Ayrshire is most welcome. I am particularly pleased to see many projects that had been delayed under previous administrations will now become a reality, and I am confident they will bring lasting benefits for people across the region for years to come.

“Investment in Ayrshire would be significantly higher if the UK Government matched the SNP’s commitment to the area – but their record is swingeing public sector cuts and a distinct lack of progress on taking forward the Ayrshire Growth Deal.

“As we go into two vital elections, voters across Ayrshire need to decide who they trust when it comes to investment in the local communities, infrastructure and services that the Ayrshire economy depends on.”
